Alyson Schwartz

Alyson Schwartz is a PhD candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware. She graduated from Clemson University in 2025 with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis in biomaterials. During her time at Clemson, she worked with Dr. Angela Alexander-Bryant and Dr. Jessica Larsen, focusing on peptides as a delivery vehicle for gene editing. During her time in their labs, she was accepted to participate in the Clemson CI + UR Program in 2023 and the Clemson Summer Research Program in 2024.
In the Oakes lab, Alyson conducts research on self-assembling tolerizing immunotherapies. She is focused on utilizing nucleic acids for the treatment of chronic autoimmune diseases.
Outside of the lab, Alyson enjoys reading, baking, watching her favorite bands live in concert, and beating her friends and family in board games. Additionally, Alyson aims to have a broader impact on her local community by participating in STEM based outreach with the BMES UD student chapter.
